We are your average(so we like to think) family living in Brisbane Australia. There are 3 of us people and a ginger cat we rescued 2 years ago after he was abandoned.
We are -
Mr Balance Budget(Mr BB) is 48 and works full time as a Payroll Officer. He thinks it fun to get up at the crack of dawn and run 10k before work. He is also a much better cook than me and definitely bakes better than I do.
Mrs. Balance Budget(Mrs BB-that's me) is 43(so that damn birth certificate says) and at the moment not working. But before that I did Accounts Payable. I don't think it's fun to run 1k let alone 10k. Although having said that, I am a little envious of all the people that line up at all the fun runs we go to to cheer on Mr BB. Maybe one day.....
Miss Balance Budget(Miss BB) is 9 years old. She is your normal pre-teen of today. Walks around the house with her Ipod Touch in one hand and her favourite toy dog in the other. She is also much more technology savvy than both her parents but also loves to do handstands on the grass for ages.
See we are a pretty normal, average family.
Why start a family finance blog?
We wanted a place to be accountable to ourselves about, I guess you could call it, our financial health. We only have a mortgage, no credit card debts and no personal loans but also no real goals either. No plan for our trip along the 'financial highway' as I've seen it called. I guess we are the same as many others with our 'it will be fine in the end' attitude. But this just can't continue. After all, we are now at the time of life where we need to think about our retirement, Miss BB's future education etc. It is just TIME full stop.
Which is why we have carved our own little space in the blogosphere. We are going to set our goals and record our progress(good and bad) for all to see. It's liberating and exciting and scary and many more adjectives as well.
